A Booming Industry Niche

Unfortunately, high-glycemic diets have become the global norm. However, with a significant number of consumers preferring a natural alternative to prescription meds, interest in blood sugar-supporting botanicals are blowing up!

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 10 Americans has diabetes and approximately 30% of Americans are prediabetic. This provides some insight on how many people currently tend to their glycemic conditions and will have to in the near future. More and more studies are underway to unveil the efficacy of botanicals, paving the way for herbal supplements’ place in helping those with blood sugar conditions.

Research is growing in this sector, but we are here with some of the most promising ingredients for blood sugar support:

Chinese Herbs

It has been reported that one compound found in numerous traditional Chinese herbs is proving “to be as effective as pharmaceuticals at lowering blood sugar. Specifically, “berberine is an alkaloid found in several herbs, including Coptis chinensis and Phellodendron amurense. In one clinical study, berberine was found to be as effective as metformin and showed a very potent antidiabetic effect.” (nutritionaloutlook).

Seaweed

With a long history of blood sugar agency, brown seaweed extract has shown impressive effects in recent studies, particularly in complex cases. Naturally occurring compounds in brown seaweed extract (fucoidan and fucoxanthin) are effective in improving blood sugar control. While more studies are being conducted, it has been discovered that after a high-sugar meal, the fucoidan content in brown seaweed extract has the ability to prevent blood sugar spikes, as the extract reduces sugar absorption in the bloodstream.

Validation and Progress

For thousands of years, ancient cultures have been using botanicals in their systems of medicine. Now, research is truly proving the power of botanicals. Today’s findings exemplify the progress in motion within niches of the dietary supplement industry. So many lives have already been changed for the better with supplement use, and the mounting evidence will only continue to grow!
