Earlier this month, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) reported that Amazon has updated its policy for vendors of dietary supplements on the Amazon platform. With Amazon’s new policy changes, it is now required that each vendor submit a “valid good manufacturing practice (GMP) certificate issued by an accredited third-party certification body” in addition to the C of A for supplements sold on Amazon. Sellers of products for sexual enhancement and weight management are further required to submit testing results from an ISO 17025 lab showing the complete absence of any illegal ingredients. The efforts to “clean up” what is sold on Amazon are obviously based on public safety but do provide new obstacles for Amazon’s supplement sellers. If you are looking to continue selling through Amazon, or plan to begin selling through Amazon, please read on to learn why Makers Nutrition is the perfect manufacturing company to keep your business succeeding safely and securely.
Purity Guaranteed
Having found evidence that some supplements sold have been “spiked” with pharmaceutical ingredients to provide additional efficacy, Amazon is taking strong steps to identify and drop such products. Adding proof of GMP auditing is a very strong first step in making sure only quality products are sold. Screening the “usual suspects” pharmaceutically enhanced supplements is another strong step toward keeping the industry honest.
Amazon has now directed attention to any listed product “that is intended for sexual enhancement or weight loss and weight managements” and added strict requirements for their acceptance by the platform. They will now require vendors of these products to submit documentation, in the form of a finished product certificate of analysis issued at least annually by an independent ISO/IEC 17025 lab, “for the compounds listed” below.
- Compounds for sexual enhancement products are sildenafil and several of its analogues, including vardenafil, tadalafil, sulfoaildenafil, and desmethyl carbodenafil.
- Compounds for weight loss and weight management dietary supplements include fluoxetine, sibutramine, desmethylsibutramine, and phenolphthalein.
As these identified compounds are not lawful, it is wise to remember that not all supplement manufacturers are created equal. Some are not built with the strong bones on which Makers Nutrition stands. From day one, Founder and CEO Jason Provenzano emphasized the importance of producing nothing but the safest, high-quality, pure products that would satisfy our clients’ supplement manufacturing needs. Your Makers Nutrition representative can, of course, instantly provide you with the GMP documents Amazon now requires. While we have complete confidence that we never include any illegal ingredients, Amazon does require third party finished product testing. If you have questions regarding this testing, your sales associate can help steer you in the right direction.
